Activity

I have been doing a lot recently. The recipe for Curried Coconut Acorn Squash Soup, the Recipe of the Week on the web page, Bkafka.com, is brand new. It goes with a host of new things on Cooking and Vegetable Tips, also on the web page. http;//www.bkafka.com/VegetableTip/index.html

I have been organizing my Oaxca and Huatulco memories and advice for the Travel and Food section of the web page which should let me catch up with my promises' Until then, just let me tall you about the Casa Oaxaca which is oddly enough two different places owned by the same people. One is an enchanting small hotel in the center of the old, Colonial, part of the city. It has a pool, a wonderful courtyard where breakfast can be eaten and lovely people. The other is an excellent restaurant with Mexican food that has been recreated by a very talented chef, Alessandro who has yet another restaurant in an affluent suburb on the edge of town. There is a wine list--good--but I must admit to drinking margaritas or mexcal (a different cactus).

In a totally different mode, we went out for a celebration to Le Bernardin (155 West 51st Street, between 6th and 7th avenues in New York; 212 544 1515; www.le-bernardin.com). It is all seafood and brilliant. It was, as always, perfection. The chef, Eric Ripert, is handsome, charming and knows how to cook. More about this in Travel and Food next week.

Barbara, how funny for you to mention Le Bernadin. I am the only person I know who isn't bowled over by the food there. I ate there only twice, and many moons ago, and left scratching my head. But everyone I know loves the place. I walked by Le Bernadin just yesterday and said to myself "time for a return visit." Now to hear it from you, who I trust completely, seals my fate. Le Bernadin take three it is.
